Reviving Historic Elegance: NoMad Hotel’s Transformative Refurbishment in Covent Garden 

Challenge

The NoMad Hotel project posed a unique challenge of refurbishing the Grade II-listed Bow Street Magistrates’ Court and adjoining police station, both dating back to the 1800s. The client’s vision was to transform this historic site into a five-star luxury hotel with modern amenities while preserving its heritage. The existing space constraints and the need to maximize guest rooms and food and beverage capacity presented considerable obstacles. Additionally, the hotel’s location in the heart of Covent Garden demanded solutions that would be sensitive to noise and air quality to ensure a harmonious coexistence with the vibrant community.

Solution

Tetra Tech’s mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) expertise played a pivotal role in overcoming the challenges and delivering a transformative refurbishment for the NoMad Hotel. We carefully implemented design features that modernized the space while respecting and preserving the building’s rich heritage. Through careful positioning of services, we maximized the available space, ensuring optimal functionality without compromising the historical integrity of the structure. A key aspect of our solution was the rationalization of the rooftop plant arrangement, minimizing room and height requirements and thereby enhancing the hotel’s aesthetic appeal.
